What's it about?

Historic Towns of Dutchess County is both a magazine and a not for profit association. We began as a Quad project for the Dutchess County Genealogical Society and early on partnered with the Dutchess County Historical Society. Our core directors are leaders in these two organizations.

Though we do strive for the accuracy of a scholar, we present a more casual tone, one of conversation with people in all walks of life, not just historians and genealogists. We advance the goals of Cultural Heritage Tourism and Sustainable Local Business. All of our towns have the ability to attract visitors through using these principles. The Walkway Over the Hudson presents a great example that everyone will understand. The project unites history with today's focus on sustainability in a way that we all can enjoy and brings visitors into the area to stimulate local business. The project has already impacted our local economies in a positive way and this benefit will continue to grow.

Granted each town does not currently have a project on this scale. However--mansions and museums, parks and trails, ghost towns and caves--all Dutchess County Towns have scenes, sites, people and stories to pique the curiosity, capture the imagination and stimulate the desire to visit on the part of the reader. This is what our magazine is all about--we seek to serve Dutchess County Tourism by publicizing and marketing the cultural heritage aspect.
